Journal - Where are you right now on your "Who Do You Think You Are" project? What did you do over the break for the project? Did you interview anyone? Use the checklist below to figure out what you have finished, what you are still working on and what you still have to do.

In the project, I am about as far as the calender says. I am on track, I think. I am currently working on the prezi of the family tree. I have all of the circles done and names filled out, although I plan to put in the pictures today. I also have  the email, family echo, and interviews done, and I have briefly started the the infograph. Over the break I found the pictures for my prezi and scanned them into the computer and emailed them to myself. Over the next week, I plan to finish my family tree and my infographic.

Stop-motion places

1. Abigail Krump. Rock Climb(all around the world). It had a good idea and the pictures were good as well.

2. Dana Oudejans. Sticky Note Design. It had a good pattern and the colors and idea was really neat.

3. Zoe Krump. Marker setting(love). The patterns that she made were cool.

Journal - How did you stop motion animation turn out? If you could give it a grade, what would you give it out of 60 points? What did you learn from creating this video?

I think my overall presentation came out a lot better than I thought it would. I like how the movement flows a lot better than I had expected. I wish I could have done more in the editing stage, but I didn't have enough time to do that, because I spent awhile on music. If I were to give it a grade I would give it a 56/60, because I can see how a couple points would be taken off here and there, but not a significant amount. From the video, I learned how to farther use movie maker.

Journal - How far along are you on your stop motion animation? What did you do over the weekend to work on you stop motion animation? Do you have all your pictures today? Will you have all your pictures by the end of the hour? Give me a detailed updated.
I am decently far along with the stop motion animation.  Yesterday, I had my friend come over and she helped me take the pictures.  It took about 3 hours to take all the pictures and put them on the flash drive that I have. Yes, I do have all of my pictures today, and since I have them already I will still have them by the end of the hour. I think I am on tops of it and making good progress in terms of finishing.

Journal - What are you planning on doing for your stop-motion animation video? What story are you going to tell? How will your video be fun and different? Who is taking your photos? When are you taking your photos?

The topic that I am planning on doing is something with littlist pet shops. They are gonna be on a play ground going down a slide. Then, all the sudden one is gonna fall of and break a bone is his or her body. Finally they will go to the doctor and the bone all fixed up. Mine will be different because it is a different topic in general, and done with different prompts. I am going to be taking my photos. I will be taking them over the weekend, most likely on Saturday.

Journal - What story will your storyboard tell? Explain in detail.

My storyboard was about tying a shoe. The whole thing is pretty simple. The first slide I have the untied shoe laces, in the next I have the laces tied in one knot. For the third slide, I show a bunny ear and getting ready to wrap the lace around and through the whole, which is what the next slide is. The last slide is finishing of and pulling the string through the loop. I used my  tennis shoes to take the pictures.

Journal - What photo editing tool(s) have you used so far on your 5 photos project? Do you like the tool? Is it easy to use? Hard to use? What's good about it? Whats bad about it? Give a detailed review of the tool.

I have used fotoflexar. I like the tool for the most part. I feel like it is kind of basic and could have had more opinion that I could use. The tool is easy to use, simple and it didn't take any time to figure out how to use it. I think what is good about it is all the effects that you can add to the picture. That was my favorite part. What's bad about it is how they have a lot of things that you can do, but a lot of them they won't be useful for a lot of pictures. Overall, balancing out everything about the tool, it is a good tool.

Journal - What are the pros and cons to photo editing? What are some examples of when photo editing is fun and appropriate? When can photo editing be inappropriate or too much?

One of the pros is that you can get the picture exactly the way you want it. You also have the opportunity to make yourself look better through the editing. Some of the cons include people editing them in a somewhat mean way or doing things that are good with the picture. An appropriate would be something like red eye removal or just changing the color. it can be too much when the whole picture is obviously edited and anyone can tell easily and it could be inappropriate when it is used for something like adding in something to a person that the person would not or does not approve of.

Journal – What is your favorite web tool that we have used in class so far this year? Why is it your favorite web tool? What do you like about it? How can you use it again in the future?

My favorite tool is prezi. I like it because it is easy and simple to use. I also didn't think that it was easy and it could just complicate things, but after I used I really like it. The think that I like about it most is the transitions that come from slide to slide and the designs that you can use. I think in the future I will use it. I will use it in other classes when we have to put together presentations or power points- commonly in science or contemporary issues. I think it was good that I found prezi.

Journal- How was your weekend?

Mainly my weekend consisted of doing homework and playing volleyball. On Saturday, that was when I played volleyball, and we ended up taking 3rd in the sophomore tournament as the freshman "a" team. It was a really bitter loss in the semi finals, because we barely lost, and it could have gone anyway. As it turned out we had to play our own sophomore team in the play out for 3rd, and they were pretty upset about that. On Sunday, I went to church and when I came home I finished my homework for contempary issues and hela9. I then spent the rest of the day working on a speech that I had to write for church and face timing a friend about it. By the end of the weekend, though, I was not ready for the week to start.

Journal - What makes a presentation memorable? What makes a presentation stand out and not boring? How are you going to make your presentation better than anyone else? How will you make it unique? Explain.

What makes a presentation memorable is how interesting the speaker is. The speaker should not also read of the screen because that makes it boring. To me, a presentation that the speak is funny and gets really involved will be one of the presentations that stand out. What is am going to do to make it memorable to even one else, is make the slides interesting and the pictures colorful and interesting as well. To make it unique I will put in interesting picture, and have it relate to the information.

Journal - What did you learn from the Ted Talk yesterday? Did you find it interesting or accurate? Explain.

I learned that psychologist think that we are trying to find a "connection" with our phone, because we believe that it is not present in humans. I also learned some stories that she elaborated on. I find it a bit interesting that she thought so harshly on the topics. I think that she thought to much on them. I didn't think that everything she said could be fully proven to be true. However, she did provide interesting theories as to way we do these things, and if they are true I would see them as accurate. The thing that I thought was most interesting was the names she gave to the topics that she talked about.

Journal - What do you love about the "digital age" that we currently live in? What do you dislike about it? What are positives ways you use technology in your life? What are some things that come along with technology that you don't like? Explain.

What I like about it is it makes things easier, such as doing projects. It also makes the social life more interesting, you can get to know more people or see more about the person that you might have not known other wise. Something that I dislike about it is that when they run slowly, it drives me nuts. I also don't like when typing something up and don't save, and the computer shuts down or something and then you lose all your work, I hate that. The use of it is helpful because, as said before, it makes things faster and you can get them done faster. That is my overall thought about the "digital age" we are in now."

Journal - Tell me about your Homecoming weekend (whether you went to the activities or not!). Tell me about what you did over the weekend.

I did go to homecoming over home coming weekend. However, before the dance I had a volleyball tournament that my team had to go to, which we ended up winning. Then once I got home I had a couple hours to get ready. After that I went to some ones house and we took pictures there. After that we went to eat dinner at Bravo, me and a girl split a pizza type thing. Then we proceeded to the dance. I didn't think that it was the much fun, more of the pre-dance stuff was more fun to me. Overall, it was still a great day.

Journal - What do you know about infographics? What do you know about them? What are their purpose?

I don't know what infographics are. If I had to guess I would guess that they are something with the build of a computer. I don't really know if that is far from right or not. Since I don't know what they are I can't tell what the purpose of them are. With my guess though, I would say that there prpose is to show things on the screen.

Journal - What are you weekend plans?

My plans for this weekend start with tonight where I will hang out with friends and do things with them. Over the actual weekend I am going to drive 6 hours to Muscatine Iowa for soccer. Once I get there I will  play two games off soccer and in the mean time just hang out with the team. Then I will come home and I will work on the two hours of homework than I have. After that I will probably watch some T.V. and then I am going to get ready for bed and go to bed and be ready for the week ahead.

Journal - Most students view siting work as 'a pain in the butt'. How do you feel about it? Is it necessary? When is it appropriate to cite work? What's the importance of it?

I think that citing is a pain in the butt, like the majority of the students. The reason why I think that is because I feel that it is a lot of unnecessary work. I think that we should just have to put the website name or the book name. Then I think that we would all be okay with it, and everyone else would be okay with it. On the other hand when talking about the importance of it, I think that it is important to give the website and the author credit. I think that it is important to cite all the work that would be used because then the teacher or grader of the paper knows where you went to find the information and they know if you copied any of the work. Overall, I can see why it is important but still don't like it very much.

Journal - What is your favorite book, magazine, or publication? Why?

My favorite book would have to be Divergent. I like the book because I think it has a perfect mix of everything, such as action and  romance. I also like the plot idea about splitting  the people up and then kinda what goes on from there. I think that the author did a good job of showing everything that is happening. I also think that the author made up a good plot for the book and kept it going with interesting parts in the book. Every chapter I think that she incorporated everything together perfectly and didn't leave things to be confusing, and for me to figure them out. Overall, i just think that everything in Divergent was put together well.

Journal - Do you enjoy writing? What kind of writing do you enjoy? Why is writing an essential skill in life? How will you use this skill in the future?

Yes, I very much so enjoy writing, it is something that I love to do. I enjoy writing fiction because then you can make it up. I love just going and writing and be able to just image, and put anything that you want to down on paper, no matter if it is true or not. For me, it gives me a way to capture things that I might want to happen, but can't because they deal with something magical and that are not possible for humans to do. I think writing is an essential skill because it happens everywhere. Essay, papers, and other assignments have writing in them and writing is having to be used in them. I think that writing is important for me because it is an excellent skill for a good job that I pick in the future, and throughout the rest of school. There is no writing that I don't enjoy, but i have to say I don't l like writing narratives because I feel like my life is very boring and I never have anything goo to write about.

Journal - What is creating an outline for a paper important? Do you think it helps you personally? How would you prefer to outline a paper - pen and paper or an online tool? Is there a different way you know if that would prefer to organize your thoughts?

What makes a outline important is it plans everything out and it easily organizes all the thoughts that you have regarding the topic. Personally, I think that they don't help me as much as they should. If given a choice I normally don't use them, whether or not that is the right choice I have not figured that out yet, but I haven't found anything that it would help me more to make the outline. However, when I do make the outline I like using a paper one better. I prefer this way the most because I am not that big of a fan of doing everything on the computer, after a while it will just drive me crazy when the computer will start to run slowly. Plus, when doing research going from window to window drives me nuts. I also like the paper because, for me, it goes quicker. Other than that I don't have a different preference when organizing the information.

Journal - Tell me about your weekend. Where did you go? What did you do?

I would say that I had a pretty productive weekend. On Friday I had a team volleyball sleepover. I thought that it was really fun, because the girls house that we went to was really big and had a pool that we used. We also watched a really cool movie, "Now You See Me," I thought that the tricks and the and everything else was one of the coolest movies that I had ever seen. On Saturday and Sunday I had a soccer tournament. We played two teams a day. Throughout that whole tournament we went undefended and only had one goal scored on us all weekend. For the remainder of the day on Sunday I worked on a science project for around four hours and have yet to finish it still, though I hope to do so today. Overall, I would say that I had a very exciting and entertaining weekend.

Journal - Who do you look up to in life? Why? What have they done to help you or guide you?

The person that I looked up to in life is my sister. The main reason that I looked up to her is because she has always looked out for me and helped me. I know that she always has my back when something goes wrong. She is a good role model to me. I think that she will always do the right thing and influences me when that situation comes to me. I also looked up to her because she is the person that I want to become. Mainly, I just know that she will always be there for me when I need her help, and that she will guide me to do the right thing.

Journal - What is good email etiquette and why is it essential in the "real" world? How can having good email etiquette put you ahead?

Good email etiquette is using correct grammar and being polite and respectful throughout the whole email. It is essential in the real world because you want to give a good first impression. Then it might urge the company or person to want to help you or grant you your request, ect. If you are in the job format, your boos would want to to be polite to him so you can keep your job, or maybe get the job/interview for the job. It can put you ahead by making you more successful in the business world or the world of people. it mainly just get you a step higher than the next person that will come around.

Journal - If there was one big global issue in the world that you could fix, what would it be? A cure for cancer? Save the rain forest? Stop pollution? Think about it and then write about it. Why would you choose that specific issue?

If I could fix one global issue I would help all the animals that are near extinction or ones that are extinct. I would choose that because I really like animals, and they are something that I think makes the human life a lot better. Another reason is that animals are the closest thing to humans, and think that they should get the chance to be saved, as we would do for our own kind. There are a lot of things that we use animals for, for testing, love, and just to be with and care for. But if animals, like Pandas, are going extinct we won't have that fun animal around anymore, forever. The other option I decided not to pick, because they don't affect me in anyway yet. I don't have any connection to the other ones yet, but with animals I like them a lot and want to keep them around. That is way I would help the animals.

Journal - On Friday we discussed Public Service Announcements. In your own words tell me what they are and what their purpose is. If you could create a PSA what would your topic be? Why?

A PSA is something that people do, as in a speech or announcement, to voice an opinion and get no business profit out of it. If I had to create one I would make it on illegal drug use. I think that it is a growing issue and is one of the topics I would have one of the most opinionated speeches on. I would also chose that as my topic because people are being effected by it in a bad way and is an issue that we would need to address.

Journal - What are your hobbies and extra curricular activities? Where do you spend your free time? Tell me three of your favorite things (movies, TV show, magazine, sport, color, etc.)

Some of my hobbies include volleyball and soccer. Out of both of those my favorite one is volleyball. I have always liked it better I don't know why, I guess I normally connect with the people more and have a better time in general. I spend most of my free time at my house or in the gym for volleyball. The majority of the time it is at my house, though. When I am at my house I will just sit there and do nothing. Three of my favorite things include volleyball, the movie National Treasure, and sitting at home. National Treasure is by far my favorite movie and watch it every time it shows on television  which also happened to be last night. Also with doing nothing, that goes hand-in-hand with relaxing which is also another thing that I like doing. That is all of the things I enjoy doing and do when I have the chance.

Who I Am I Presentation

Wednesday, August 28th

Journal - What are some qualities of a good presentation? How can you make a boring presentation interesting? Explain.

I think that good qualities to a presentation are eye contact, confidence, and loudness. With eye contact it shows the confidence. The confidence will maintain peoples attention and want to keep there attention once you have it. having confidence shows that you are okay being up and and will make people think positively about you and the presentation. The loudness will be so everyone can hear you and don't have to think that hard when you listen. What makes a boring presentation interesting it color. The more color that you have the more "eye popping" the presentation will be, this will keep peoples attention. When actually presenting you would need color in your personality as well. Basically, be fun when presenting. Those are some things that would be necessary for me to have an exciting presentation.

Monday, August 26th

Journal - Tell me if you agree with this statement and then explain why or why not. "Images on the internet are 'free game' - if someone posted I should be able to use it."

I think that the statement is right and wrong. I would like to believe that all people are generally good people, and if that bad picture came along then they would not use it. That is the point in the disagreement. However, some people do believe that no matter what the image is, and believe that it is okay to use, the person that posted it had a reason and a good point, though that might not always be the case. These are the people who believe the picture would be free game. On the other hand, and the side I agree with more, just because it is posted doesn't mean you should be able to use it. Some of the pictures might not be okay to be put up on the web and to be spread. It should not  viable to all viewer, and should be thought through before taking the picture as free game. Overall, the statement is wrong but can be arguable from the other side.

Journal - What is the importance of online safety and protecting your information? What do you do to protect yourself online? Share an experience you or someone you know has had with online safety.

The importance of online safety is so people don't find you online, figure out a bunch of information on you and then come to kill you or steal or identity and etc. As for protecting your information, you want to keep the very personal things off the internet, because once it is there it will never go away. Things that I do to keep myself safe is following the basic guidelines that we were taught when we were young kids, like no talking to people you don't know and if you do no giving out personal information. Also for Web 2.0 safety, i think twice before i will post anything and make sure it would be okay and safe to post. An experience that my cousin had, was once he was online and he was playing some game that you could play and then talk to other players. He told me that some person was talking to him and asking him somewhat personal questions. At that point he was getting a bit suspicious and was not telling much of the truth to the person. After that he deleted his account, for the fear of someone hacking him. In my opinion he handled it decently well, and pretty much followed the rules of online safety.

Journal - Tell me what you know about Web 2.0. List example Web 2.0 sites. Are you on any sites that let you “post” information? What are those sites? How often do you use them? What do you post on them?

Web 2.0 is a website you can post information on, or things that are social networking sites. Sites that are included in web 2.0 are Twitter, Tumblr, Instagram, Vine, Pintrest, Facebook, YouTube  and Myspace. I am only on one of the sites that lets you post things. The only one is Instagram. I don't post anything that often, but on a daily basis I normally check it twice a day, or if I am busy I will check it only once a day. The stuff I post on them are funny things that I might find. I might also post just something interesting that I did or am doing, if I take a picture. I find that other people use it for the same things but sometimes they will post a picture and then write a message to go with it regarding important information or something to that effect. Some people also post videos of funny things that they are doing, or maybe just some random statement or challenge they put them selves up to. Being the only one i have, Instagram would be my favorite web 2.0 site.

Journal - After watching the short clip of Ashton Kutcher's acceptance speech what did you take away from his advice? What does this quote mean to you -"Everything around you that you call life was made up by people that were no smarter than you, and you can change it, you can influence it, you can build your own things that other people can use."
I took away that opportunities don’t just come. Opportunities are something that you have to work for. The work would be hard, something that you might have to spend late nights and early mornings on. Things that you have to want that success on. The distance that you are willing to travel that is a great amount is the amount of work that you do. Once that the success is achieved with the work then the opportunities might start coming towards you. The opportunities that do come could be a step, because at the last opportunity you should have worked. From there you go and progress till you get to the true success and opportunity that you want. When he said that to be sexy was to be smart, and to be kind, caring, and generous. I agree with that. The person who is the smartest and the most generous will “win” the game of life. They will be the people that come out with the better jobs that make six figures. Out of his whole speech it showed that the work that you do will help in the long, and how generous and nice you are, will end up getting you so far in life.

In the quote, Everything around you that you call life was made up by people that were no smarter than you, and you can change it, you can influence it, you can build your own things that other people can use," it gives perspective to work hard. It means that smartness isn’t something that you were born with but something you must find on your own. It tell me to never stop reaching, that I won’t have to be the smartest person to achieve success, just be the most persistent and the one that wants it the most, wants it more than the next person. With that want and persistence you then take it and use it to create. With that creation you use it, and then other people will use it, and influence everyone around it. That is what the quote means to me.
